There is a project planned for construction that includes the construction of approximately 1.5 kilometres of four lane highway on Highway 97 north of Gallagher Lake. Some work is planned for this year, the detour construction over the irrigation canal, with the majority of the work occurring next year.

This project also includes the construction of 2.0 metre wide paved shoulders on both sides of the highway(similar in design to four laning that was recently constructed north of Osoyoos at the north end of Osoyoos Lake).

Construction will be staged in such a fashion so as not to interfere with any planned cycling events on the highway and thoroughfare for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained during the duration of the construction of the project.

A $10-million highway widening project is now underway in the South Okanagan.

Work began Nov. 1 to add passing lanes in each direction on a 1.5-kilometre stretch of Highway 97 just north of Gallagher Lake between Oliver and Okanagan Falls. Crews must first relocate an irrigation canal before the actual roadwork can begin.
