Trail Maintenance

Tis' the time to help reopen many of the higher trails in the valley! As the snowpack recedes, the trails reveal themselves as the places that we love to play; with one caveat; deadfall. Many of the most popular trails in the valley are covered with deadfall, rocks and derailleur-snapping twigs – all of which need be removed.

Due to the vast quantity of trails that we are lucky enough to have in the valley, there is no way that any one group could clean all of them up. The seasonal ‘cleanup’ process will go a lot faster and be done to an even higher standard if you – the riders – pitch in and help to remove some of the junk that impedes our trail lovin’.

It’s pretty simple really; make at least one of your trail days each month into a hike. Bring along a basic set of pruning shears and a handsaw, dress appropriately for safety’s sake and get out there to make a difference in the trails. As most of you know, there is no “Mom” or “The Government” that are going to clean our trails – I urge everyone to pitch in and make a difference.

The next time that you are on your favorite trail, you will reap the rewards of your work as well as that of your fellow trail users.

If you wish to organize a ‘trail cleanup day’, just drop the club a line via the link on the front page. We will gather up a few hearty souls and head out with ya!
