I had previously only hiked this route a couple of times, always looking at it as a potential gut-buster of a ride in the full-sun exposure. As it turns out, on a partially cloudy day, this trail is a beauty, albeit challenging, mountain bike ride. Big Barry has added to the original route that I'd previously experienced, more or less doubling the overall scope of the trail.
Taken as a whole, it has my solid vote as Penticton's newest, most physically & technically challenging trail; sections of the route make Rock Oven look like a kiddy park. The sheer volume of work that has gone into scratching and digging a trail into the foothills of Mt.Christie is jaw-dropping!
Kudos to the big fella', he's created a rock and roll masterpiece. I'll let the pictures tell the tale...
Things didn't start off too smooth, Curt's chain succumbed to his power-thighs once again
Barry proudly leading the way
A 'circus of riders' in one shot
It was that kinda' gruntagious ascent
Beauty views are a mainstay of the ride
The descent off the first summit is spectacular!
Machino on a 29'er? Ya man!
The "egg-rock"
Long-time ridin' sista' "Jules" on the first summit
Ya' baby!
Jimmy; seemingly always the happiest guy on the trail
Sun-set and we still have a pile of descending to do...
As I was saying...
Post-ride 'refreshments' at Barry's pad
Mischa, proudly showing off her indoctrination into the blood-sport of Mt.biking :-)
Next up; Wright's Passage - ya' don't wanna' miss this one! J.Smoke has agreed to run a shuttle for us, so no need to go up and grab the top vehicle at day's end! It'll cost ten or less to pull this off, but so worth not having to go way the hell back up there at the end of the ride.
