Just a quick note to thank all of the hearty souls who made it out to the bike club meeting this evening! I feel that we made a few more steps forward and welcome any and all feedback from everyone who reads this with regards to how we can improve any aspect of the meetings or the direction that we are going with the club.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to invite folks who expressed an interest in joining the steering committee to contact us via this forum; either as a post or as a private email from the main site’s “Contact Us” link (www.bikepenticton.com)

Again, thank you for participating thus far, together we’ll make this the coolest, most enjoyable and participative bike club in the province!

Below are the 'minutes' of the Dec. 3rd meeting - if anyone wants to discuss any of these points further or has any unanswered questions - please don't hesitate to contact any of the steering committee or even just leave a post here - and we'll - - definitely - - address your questions with solid answers! Thanks to Rowena for taking the following minutes!!

December 3rd 7pm

- Go over agenda for meeting
- Contact list has 166 names
- Need people to take on leadership roles for success of the club
- Reviewed amalgamation with the South Okanagan club. They were very helpful and supportive and have given a lot of direction to the steering committee. This topic was discussed extensively at the steering committee meetings. The decision was made to move ahead with our own club to better meet the needs of cyclists in Penticton and surrounding area.
- Came up with a name: Penticton and Area Cycling Association (PACA) which also happens to be a nocturnal rodent from South America.
Andrew
- Fees to cover insurance costs
- Potential for future funding programs to cover costs.
- Review benefits of belonging to a cycling club
- Question about Penticton Indian Band lands. Andrew has spoken to the Band and they are aware that people are riding on PIB land, and for now are tolerating it. Trail expansion, development or mapping is not allowed and people may be asked to leave the land without reason or warning at any time.
- Comment about commuter safety and possibility of educational programs.
Graeme
-Presented Survey results
-Summarized with the top three goals for the club based on survey response:

Mike
- Provided an overview of the main insurance providers for bike clubs, being IMBA, GRIMBA, and CycleBC.
- Discussed pros and cons of each and compared.
- For an all-inclusive club CycleBC seems like the only option.
- Comment on inclusion of youth and the necessity of inclusion in our club.
- Discussion of other options:
- Racing licenses can be bought separately. Potentially there could be different fees for racers and non racers.
- Comparison with TriBC. TriBC only covers club workouts and races.
- CyclingBC only interested in race clubs.
- More discussion can occur on the discussion forum.
Brian
- April 7th, 2009 is the AGM!
- Leave steering committee in place until AGM but recruit more people.
- Election for Board of Directors will occur at AGM
- Presented tentative Agenda
- Example Roles:
- President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- VP Membership
- VP Equipment Manager
- VP Social Activities
- VP Web Technology and Communication
- VP Recruitment
- VP Trail Maintenance
- VP Promotions

- Comment that success depends on people to help, sharing their expertise, enthusiasm, and knowledge. VPs can head up committees. There are all kinds of ways of helping out.
- Sub-committees to address specific needs of groups for example road bikers, trail riders, trail maintenance, social activities, etc.
- Comment that we should put money down now and see who’s committed. Discussion ensued. Legal issues override and we should wait until we have insurance and a treasurer before taking money.

Dec 3rd Group Meeting & Minutes - UPDATED Empty Mapping and signage

Post  Wavesowner Sat Dec 20, 2008 1:35 pm

I have a buddy who used to be one of the directors in Fernie and they put out a good map the sales of which generated a high percentage of the clubs revenue. And as a traveller to new dirt on occasion, it is really nice to have good signage to compliment the map (in leu of a local guide of course.) Its good that these are among the goals of the club.
