Race/Event Ideas
So the 2013 events and races are being organised at this time of year.
Does anyone have any ideas of events or races they would like to see happening in the upcoming year?
The 2013 event list is already looking pretty good but if there is an idea that looks really good, i will have a look into it.

Observed Trials
Can anyone think of a location to build a Rock Garden, have Log hurdles, have balance beams, Boulders, Teeter Tots and other bike handling skills all within a specified area?

Skills Park
I recently put a bug in the ear of Tourism Penticton (Jessie Campbell - CEO) and city council (councillor Andrew Jakubeit) that a prime location for a skills park might be the empty grassy area south of the Penticton skateboard park.
Personally speaking, I'd like to see it near hillsides, specifically the end of the Cul-De-Sac on Ridgedale Ave., but logically, its likely easier to get one in place along Riverside Rd. (next to the skateboard park) as electrical and water is already in place there, not to mention its somewhat symbiotic relationship to Loco Landing and the skateboard park...

Re: Race/Event Ideas
Here is a great idea for a race, now all we need is a pro. I suggest Peaty (because Gary can borrow a bike)

skills park
Why don't we just build our own?. Maybe in the area around the staging area of the toonie races on cambel's?. Funny thing, I just finished unloading a bunch of wood from my trunk to do just that...I am now all about ' getting it done' up there. Stay tuned........ . But the best thing for everybody would be a skills park right down by loco landing's skate park. Banff and Canmore have awsome parks probably paid for by us the permit purchacers?.

Campbell Skills Park
Duder
Please hold off on building (anything) on Campbell Mt. The 'meeting place' where the Toonie races have been starting from is Sather land; and the Sather family will tear down anything that is built there (actually, Mike Street - their 'man on the ground' will). He has a new front-end-loader and a small CAT, so he'd likely enjoy it :-)
The bike skills park should go one of two places; beside the skateboard park, which will provide water / washrooms etc., but be boaring as hell cause' its flatter than piss on a platter...
or
The section of land at the end of Ridgedale Ave. That area is city-owned as well, and has a pump-house immediately adjacent to it. It also features trails coming in from above (think "connector From CODE4 / Knuckle-Duster / Carmi Canyon etc.). That area also offers what nearly every skills park lacks; vertical feeding in on an entire flank of land. This means singletrack that drops through and into stunts - fed by gravity via easy to climb trails. A skills park in that area would be "Da' Bomb"!
If its to ever happen - it'll take people like those reading this to step up and start petitioning City of Penticton staff and council to put in on the books for 2014 / 2015. It'll take folks fund-raising too, as there is no way in hell council will pony up for the full pop on a gig like this.

Re: Race/Event Ideas
Curt, the items i suggested building, i should have stated would be temporary and not permanent fixtures. These would be for one off events and then removed and possibly kept for future events or trials parks.

Re: Race/Event Ideas
If you haven't heard, there is talk in the valley of holding a XC MTN Bike series similar to the Cyclocross series which has grown in leaps and bounds.
I am very willing to host Pentictons part of the series if anyone has any suggestions of a loop course in the Mice. My guess we would need about a 10 km loop if at all possible.

XC racing
Currently looking at courses in the Mice for a spring time XC race.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what they would like to see on race format?
Who votes for a 1 lap all out blitz?
Who votes for a multi lap, timed semi-enduro?
Please remember that we would like to not compete with the Test of Humanity.
This is your club, this is your race, this is your chance to have an input on the future of racing in Penticton.

Re: Race/Event Ideas
So we have votes for Enduro Style.
Does Two hours sound good to you guys???
As for the DH race, It's all about suitable course. There is plenty of eagerness for DH racing in Penticton to make it successful. Does someone wanna rebuild Campbell?
Maybe one day someone will organise one.

How do you see that working? Not sure how you would go up the hill again. Walk back up?

BigUn' Enduro
Start at Campbell Mt. / do the Campbell Classic (the singletrack) / end up at the north parking lot again.
Head up the pavement to the Cul-de-sac on Greyback Mt. Rd., ascend the gravel road beyond it to the top of High Pony
Head down High Pony (not Bronco) onto Marmot, descend all the way down to the Pearly Gate / Official Parking Lot.
That'll be 25km please sir...

Re: Race/Event Ideas
Does anyone want to help get a DH race or series of races going?
I just don't have the time to do the whole process. I have a few other projects i am working on.
The majority of work is involved in mapping and ensuring that the course is suitable for race day. If you can map and sort out a course that is race suitable then you are half the way to race day.
If you need to know more details, let me know.

Dh race
It would be cool if we had a race down Cambel's to the gate area. Once the snow goes I'll go check it out again and help out anyway I can. Live to ride!

Re: Race/Event Ideas
Get us a Course Surfer boy and we'll run "members only" races which will keep the cost down allowing more money for gas which means more shuttle time.

name generator.
Create a spread sheet with 3 columns.
First is a long list of adjectives.
Next is body parts.
The third is verbs.
Random selection from each column.
And what do you get ? ..... "Filthy Colon Punch" Race 2013

Re: Race/Event Ideas
As i didn't get any offers from anyone to help organise a DH Race, this idea will be scrapped for at least another year.
Instead, how about some Short Track Racing?
2-3 km course. 1 hour. See how many laps you can do.
The Short course makes for a great spectator friendly race.
