Post your repairs/upgrades/new rides
So I was sitting in my tiny little workshop tonight, sharing a tall glass of Kraken and Coke with my favorite obsession and I started going through my 'winter maintenance' to do list to see what I had completed. Well apparently ... things got outta hand. REALLY outta hand.
- picked up an aluminum rocker for DH days to go with ....
- a 2012 DHX RC4 shock w/350# spring (testing phase)
- a replacement set of needle bearings for my DHX Air for XC riding
- an XO med cage Type2 derailleur (using the original '09 XO 9sp shifter)
- new chain (SRAM 991)
- new chain rings, a gold 24t Blackspire and a 36t SLX
- new cables/housing on shifters
- new cable/housing on KS Supernatural
- new 2.35 Nevegal for the back (or a 2.35 Prowler XT)
- new 2.5 Minion DHF XC for the front
- fresh pads on the Saints
- fresh oil in the Totem
- new WTB Silverado SLT Saddle (hasn't arrived yet)
- replacement seatpost QR lever
Its going to be a great year!

I've got to put some new rubber on the 29er. Thats about it.
The road bike needs a fair bit of a tuneup though.
Although a new roadie would be nice.

Ooooooo, the Hans Damf will be nice. I want those, but have to go through my inventory of tires first. Those tires are phenomenal on Firebirds ... In the event you don't want them.

tires
Yes, the tires are very grippy. Must be the softer compound and tread but we'll see how long they will last. I wish I could switch them off to save them abit but being tubless there is quite the process?

Sure felt good to get it back and ride around the neighborhood though - with temps' like these, we'll all be rippin' it soon!

Can someone help me
I don't know too much about Mtn Bike Braking so was wondering if anyone could help me.
I am currently working on my girlfriends bike and her back brakes are rubbing.
At first i thought it was just an alignment issue with the wheel not being seated right. Tried numerous ways of trying to align the wheel in straight but no go.
Does anyone have any clues on what i should try. Is there something i can adjust? Is there a proper way of aligning the wheel into the bike so the disc is straight?

Start with a bucket of warm soapy water. Wash the bike.
Once you can see past the dirt, check the clearance between the rotor and the pads. You man need to contort your body to get to a position to see daylight on the other side. If the pads appear completely worn, replace. If only one side is worn and the other touching, there are bolts holding the calliper to the frame that can be loosened and the calliper adjusted.
If you loosed them off, the 'easiest' way to get it centered is snug them just a tad and grab a mittfull of brake to clamp it and then tighten snug it a bit more. Give the wheel a spin and listen. If it just pulses, rotor slightly out of true (not a horrible thing). If still rubbing constantly try to recenter the calliper.
If all that still doesn't work, I'm afraid your bike is toast. Bring it to me and go but a new one.

I should also add, some of the mechanical disc brakes have a pad adjust on the outside of the caliper to push that pad in a bit.
But to be honest I just pounded down a drink so I wouldn't have to drive so my judgement may be sqewed.

If 1P@AT's advice doesn't work your disc might be out. Nothing a good hammer can't fix. Or a gentle bend at the right place.
Anyone have bike tools and like beer? I bought a frame and want to remove parts from old bike and install on new frame. But I only have a few tools and NO experience.

Thanks Brent. F'n worked a treat.
After giving it a quick clean, i decided i would pull it apart to learn the basics.
I realigned the brake system mount, then adjusted the inner caliper and pads.
Braking is now Ten Times better now that it's all dialed in.

Pierre, I've got the basics + stand. Problem is I can only fit 1 bike in my 'workshop/freeze room/storage room/warehouse' room.
What components do you need to move over? What I can't do on my own, I mosey over to Gary's and see what he has.
But it is a snow day today so we gotta head up the hill. I'll give you a call in the afternoon when we get back.
