Junior MTB club
Hi, I'm a new member. I'm looking to hook up with guys to ride with, plus also wanted to inform everyone about a junior MTB group I'm trying to put together for my son and his friends. Its for 7, 8 and 9 years old, we are looking to teach them some skills and then have a ride, mostly out of my house and the trails just above Skaha Estates, but we will branch out. Intent is to ride on Saturday mornings for 1 - 2 hours. I could also use some parts to modify kids bikes so they can climb with them, especially old cranksets with square bb's. PM me if interested

Re: Junior MTB club
Welcome to the club! We hope you'll be able to make the AGM on April 7 - that would be a great place to spread the word about your junior group (if you are looking for more participants). Good luck with your search for parts - sorry I can't help out.
We will be starting regular club rides in May, but of course feel free to post proposed rides on the forum when you feel like going out, and see who shows up.

Junior MTB club.
Hi Lucy,
Thanks for the reply. I apologize to everyone, I'm scheduled to be in Nelson during the time of the meeting, assisting Nelson Brewery with a trial of the equipment I sell. I promise not to test too much of thier beer, at least during the trial!
The Junior MTB I am going to do is for 7/8/9 yr olds, but certainly older riders/parents are welcome to join. We currently have 4 kids enrolled, all of who are also in the Apex Freestyle, Bumps and Jumps. More participants would be great. So it will start the weekend after ski season ends, Saturday April 18th. To make it fun for the kids, we will have a passbook with a green/blue/black skills level they will try to complete. At the start, we will ride from my house in the Skaha Estates area, as I have a good trail system right out the door. After a while, depending on how the kids are doing, we will branch out. The rides will be partial shuttled, so that some climbing will be involved. I will also have small training stunts at my home to teach some basics. Parents will need to sign waivers, and if they can ride with the group, it is appreciated. I'd like to have at minimum, a 4:1 parent/child ratio.
Bikes need to modified to do this. I've done my sons bikes so can assist anyone who is not sure how to do this, they need to have a 24 or 26 front, and a 32 or 28 rear cassette, and strong brakes. Young legs can't push stock gearing up hills.
Cheers, Kwak
