Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes
Just a quick "heads up" that you really need to keep your eyes on the trail these days. I've been seeing my fair share of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes in the Three Blind Mice of late (5 so far this year).
Despite what the common literature might indicate, WDBR's do in fact appear at elevation, away from open, rocky outcroppings, in lush vegetation. I saw the big un' pictured below on Rusty a couple of days ago (that's at 900m., or nearly 3000ft.) and nearly ran over a much smaller one moments before that.
Here is a little bit O' info' on the Crotalus atrox for ya' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crotalus_atrox
