Dear City of Penticton Cyclist:
CITY OF PENTICTON – PROPOSED BIKE NETWORK PLAN

The City of Penticton is using Bike to Work Week as the venue to launch consultation on the proposed Penticton Bike Network Plan. The Plan will be unveiled during Bike to Work Week Monday May 28 to Friday June 1, 2012. This will be done at several morning events that are planned as part of Bike to Work Week, see attached, with Thursday May 31, 2012, being the main consultation day.

As part of the initial consultation on Thursday May 31, 2012, the City would like to meet with stakeholders to discuss the Penticton Bike Network Plan with a smaller more involved group. At this meeting the group will be joined by Andreas Rohl, Bicycle Program Manager for the City of Copenhagen. Andreas’s areas of expertise include cycling strategy, the design of cycling infrastructure and how to integrate cycling in the general urban planning and with other modes of transport.

Andreas was instrumental in the creation of the Copenhagen Cycle Plan. Andreas is currently on sabbatical in BC doing work with the City of Vancouver. At the meeting he will share his views and experiences with the creation of a cycle network plan. The group will also have the opportunity to see the proposed Penticton Bike Network Plan, provide their comments, and ask questions. The City values your participation and comments and would appreciate your attendance at the following meeting:

Date: Thursday May 31, 2012
Time: 1:30 – 3:00 pm
Venue: Meeting Room #3, Penticton Community Centre, 325 Power Street

A similar opportunity will be provided to the general public on Thursday evening. The Proposed Penticton Bike Network Plan will be presented and Andreas Rohl will make a presentation. Display boards showing the proposed Cycling network will be on hand and City staff will be there to gather comments. The details on this event are:

Date: Thursday May 31, 2012
Doors Open: 5:30pm
Presentation by Andreas: 6:00pm
Venue: SOEC (South Okanagan Events Centre)

Following Andreas’s presentation there will be Questions and Answers.

Prior to Andreas’s presentation and after the question and answer period the public will have the opportunity to use sticky notes to place their comments on the Proposed Bike Network Map and to discuss the plan with City staff.

Thank you in advance for your participation in our consultation process.

The first meeting is open to who exactly? Is it just a private affair?
