Toonie Tuesday
Dates for 2013
July 2nd, 16th, 30th
August 13th, 27th
September 10th
RACE INFO
Our Last Ride was a blast with the course being in Fantastic shape.
SERIES INFO
The $2 Entry Fee gets you a Ride on Proven and Tested Courses, Beer, Music and Kicking back enjoying the after ride Chit Chat. Walmart can't even beat that for Price!!!
New in 2013 will be a Trail Run. PACA will be working with The Penticton Pounders and will be hosting Toonie Tuesday in combination with the Trail Run. The Trail Run will start 5 minutes after the start of the MTN Bike Ride. These are social events that we hope will solidify our Friendships with other clubs within the city.
Last year, we were able to make a considerable donation to the Test of Humanity. We are looking to do the same this year as some of the fees will go towards this awesome cause.

Re: Toonie Tuesday
My Graphic Days are over.
Graduated High School, straight into University where i took on a Double Bachelors Degree in Multimedia and Graphic Design. I wanted to design websites and cool graphic art. I dropped out after one year of a four year course as i wanted to be outdoors. I then became a Stucco guy where most of my time was spent outside and rode my bike lots.

Kudos
Once again, thankx' for all of the work that you've put into this event! Thickly ironic that it took a roadie to organize an off-road event!
(pause for thought, all of you dirt-racers out there...)

Trail Maintenance
I am looking for Volunteers to help out Next Saturday (7th July) for some Trail Maintenance on the "Toonie Tuesday" Race Course.
With the fair amount of Rain we had over the last week, there are a few washed out sections of trail which could do with a bit of lovin'.
We will be riding the course to make sure its in tip top shape and as such you'll be one of the first people to get a look at the course layout.
If Interested, email the club (paca.penticton (at) gmail.com)

We want to see this series around for years to come, so get your Family, get your friends together and come and support this series so that in generations to come, your Grandchildren's Children will be screaming "Yeah that was Awesome", because you know why?? This will be Awesome!!!
Disclaimer: The amount of "Awesome" is dependent on how many of you guys show up and race. For more "Awesome", add more Friends.

Final Tuner'
Will go around the loop first thing tomorrow morning and do a final tune up to the trails; it'll be nice, cool, tacky soil! This pre-event rain is just what the trail-godz ordered for a race event :-)
What time of day are you going to go up and lay down the marking chalk?

Toonie Tuneup - Final Touches
Went up this morning / afternoon and put in five hours of freekishly hot trail-work on the Toonie Track.
Pretty-much everything singletrack related has been tweaked, filled, raked and buffed. There is one spot in particular that riders have to pay attention to; I've marked it to hell and back in order to make the area obvious.
The section in question comes near the end of the Whoop, on the Campbell Classic singletrack (southeast section of the trail). Its marked in numerous ways; as you approach it "rumble strips" cross the trail diagonally, this is followed by wood which narrows the trail and corrals riders to the right. The right-hand side trail is further marked with acorns on both sides like traffic cones.
I had to move a huge volume of dirt from the bank on the left in order to fill in a massive erosion area running perhaps 15 meters down the slope. In the long term, we'll have to go back there and put in some time packing / adding drainage ditches.
Don't try to rider over the scrub to the left!!! Its soft, and you'll do an endo' for sure!!!
It'll be obvious as all get out when you see it, but the scene looks like this:
"Rumble-Strips"
Major Tuneup Area
Gratuitous 'Purdee' Picture
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make today's Toonie Ride, as its quarter after three now and I've just arrived home from the mountain - covered with sweat, dirt and the remnants of two layers of sunscreen. I need a bath and water, lots of water...
Enjoy the course and raise a beer or two to Aaron for making this all happen!

Re: Toonie Tuesday
Our Next Toonie Tuesday is the 31st of July. This ride will remain at Campbell Mtn as we are looking to get some Women joining us on this next Toonie Tuesday.
So guys, tell all your lady friends who love to ride bike, to join us.
We want as many women out riding Toonie Tuesday as possible as i am sure you guys as well, don't want to see this becoming a huge "Sausage Fest".

Re: Toonie Tuesday
I must say that the Toonie Course is riding pretty nice even on my Cyclocross Bike. Went up this morning to check my signs and only one is missing. Woot!
Might do some work on the uphill section eroded bits tomorrow morning.

Re: Toonie Tuesday
Did my work on the uphill sections of the Toonie Course. I even thought about you Downhillers.
The Downhill sections that run parallel to the Service rd are now smooth with out the obligatory Erosion water tunnel that seems to be a Campbell Mtn feature.
I tried to divert water the best i can but as you know, its only a temporary fix.

Cheers!!

11th September - Toonie Tuesday Test of Humanity

Is anyone interested in hosting a few early season events? I can't really fill any more time hosting these earlier in the year but if anyone else can, then have at it!

Re: Toonie Tuesday
Does anyone have any ideas to make the Campbell Course more "Toonie Tuesday" friendly?
Signage?
Course?
More Single track?
Longer Course?
An advanced and Novice Course??
Remember the whole idea behind this was to bring Novice Riders into Mtn Biking and/or Racing and i would like it to remain that way.

I have a few ideas. Let me know and we can get one planned out. I would help flagging and signing the course as well.

Sounds great!
Do your ideas involve any trail work or just using the existing trails?

Trails
Frenchie's new singletrack - right off the parking lot - those new switchbacks, along with the new "south of the DQ Table" stuff would be great. The only really 'sketchy' stuff would be the Canyon section. The road from the bottom of the Crop Circles to the Burnt Rock section could be connected with a new 400m trail (two beer sessions, four people).
It'd be good to ask permission before building it however...

Re: Toonie Tuesday
Some minor new connector trails as well as the crop circles to burnt rock that Andrew refers to. I would be in to help make that happen.

There has been an update to the "Run" Course of Toonie Tuesday.
HighPockets has created a map which i will post up when i get a chance.
The runners course is now 7km while the bike course sits at 8.5km.
The first Toonie Tuesday with the new course will be an interesting one.

Any thoughts on bringing Toonie Tuesday up to Carmi next year to change it up a bit and for a litle bit longer race season?

Carmi Toonie
A "Carmi Toonie" event (or series) would likely have to see riders using the mellow XC trails, which are so easy that uber-riders tend to whip through the Carmi XC Recreational Trail network loop as fast as they whip around Campbell Mt.
The Carmi [Canyon] trail is quit a bit more challenging than anything on Campbell Mt., and there is no alternate / easy-route option canyon-side...
I'm thinking that you might wanna' look at incorporating the Mice into your Toonie sessions. I have been hearing a lot of "word on the street" that Toonie riders would like to see Toonie-Mice days.

Re: Toonie Tuesday
The idea behind Carmi was to get out of the heat. Being a little cooler, it was to fill the gap in the hottest part of the year where it is 30+ in the valley. Late July early August. The race at Campbell this year in 35+ was quite warm.
It might end up being a 2lapper.
There has been a little research already into a suitable course for a Toonie Ride/s in the Mice.
This course will also be the basis of a Three Blind Mice Short course race.
Right now, it is looking like a 10 Toonie Ride Series for next year.
3 Blind Mice (3)
Campbell Mtn (3)
Carmi (2)
Test of Humanity (2)
