Skaha Bluffs will be bigger and better than ever thanks to a land transfer to BC Parks from the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and The Land Conservancy of BC (TLC).

In an announcement from the Ministry of Environment 308 hectares of property adjacent to Skaha Bluffs will be added to the park.

April News Empty National park bid gets boost

National park proponents in the region now have some back-up in their fight to have the province resume exploration of the idea.

On Thursday, the board of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen voted to urge the province to resume talks with the federal government. The board will also now ask that the province to be kept in the loop on those talks, and to release to the public a Parks Canada feasibility study that explores the pros and cons of the idea.

The Okanagan's elite road bicycle racing team, Rideokanagan.com held its spring team camp in Penticton. Team members will be living and training in the Penticton area this spring and summer.

While a state of emergency has been lifted in West Kelowna, a number of Central Okanagan parks and trails are closed due to the risk of flooding.

April News Empty Chute Lake KVR Closed

Residents in an area north of Naramata have been told to leave their homes immediately due to a high risk of flash flooding.

The evacuation order was put in place Friday for residents west of Chute Lake, including Indian Rock, by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Roads affected include Indian Rock Road, Glenfir Road, Summerset Lane, Chute Lake Road and Naramata Road.
