Its a GREAT idea, but someone needs to step up and say "I'll organize it", as thats how all of the world's great ideas come to fruition. If you're willing to take on the task and its logistics, I'm sure that the club would support you 100%.

At present, those of us on the executive are already over our heads with bike club related tasks and work (the kind that pays the bills).

A game of bike polo Empty general overview

Post  1part@atime Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:45 pm

Much like polo on a horse, but with no pompous polo shirt wearing, sherry sipping, old-world-money douche-baggery.
Pedal bike; whack ball (of yet undetermined size/weight); score goal; drink beer. Repeat.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you use to hit the ball? I'm in, and I can help if needed.

Dunno, croquet mallet with a longer shaft (but not too long, Gary can crouch).

I must warn you Rowena, much like a completely different industry, shafts will be broken to due hammering balls. So your mallets shouldn't be family heirlooms.

Curt, are you going to organise an early spring version of bike polo?
A muddy bog session of bike polo could be a whole heap of fun.

I still think we should do this so if anyone has any old ski poles they would like to donate, i will happily take them to make some bike polo mallets.
Over the winter i will brainstorm an idea where to have the polo games.
I'm looking for an enclosed area such as a hockey rink or basketball court or tennis court with fence around it. If anyone has any ideas.

The court your talking about could be the rink down at Skaha/ by the playground. But I think playing on grass would feel much better so all we would need is some cones to set size of field and nets?. Lakeside field - or any grass field. I did see that the mallets are a bit longer than reg ones, so abit of modication is probably needed.

Check this out on how to build mallets from ski poles and some plastic tubing.
This would be a cheap way of doing it.

I also thought about a big field but i like the idea of the ball not going out of bounds. If the ball just bounced off a wall and stayed in, the game would flow a lot better.

Uplands Elementary School has a small basketball court that is enclosed and would make a perfect beginner practice polo court.

It is a little small but until we got our gear sorted and bikes ready, i dont think we need big.
