New maps / tracks / files for the Mapping' section
Newly added to our 'Mapping' section: Carmi XC Poker Ride (Penticton) and Test of Humanity (Summerland). Downloadable maps, Google Earth files and GPS tracks!
We've left the Carmi Race course flagging & arrows in place for now. Enjoy it with your family (intermediate+ riders) or use the 11.9km loop for a cardio workout.
I've also included this complete overview of the Carmi trails; sans Wolfgang's crazy trails (which he has asked me not to publish) and the Ellis Creek Canyon trail - which we will be working on Oct.10th.
Carmi - "The Big Picture".
The Carmi Trails are White
Code4 / KnuckleDuster are Blue
Pancho's Revenge is Green
PACA's Poker Ride is Red
Service Roads are black

Why all of the coverage on the Carmi area? Because the bike club has signed a three-year land-use agreement with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & The Arts (think; BC Forest Service, and you are in the right ballpark...) and we wish to promote the area as an all-season recreational center. We also wish to implement the valley's first 'legal' / 'legit' trail, on land that we have permission to create new trails in!
To this end; we are embarking on a three-year trail-building stint in the Carmi acreage - but unlike all of the other locally built bike trails in the area, this one will be a black/blue skill level (as opposed to the black/double-black diamond runs now in place or currently being flagged out). The plan is to avoid hand-built wooden structures altogether, instead focusing on making use of the natural features in the terrain; rock roll-overs, bedrock slabs, logs and the like.
We plan on this being a long-term project, and everyone is invited to join in and lend a hand whenever possible. Flagging for stage 1 will begin next week, with completion of the first stretch slated for the fall of 2011.
When complete, all who work on the trail will get the opportunity to vote on a title for it.
