Hike in / Car-Shuttle to search for lost trails...
Myself and a few cats from the Pinkbike discussion forum are set to hike this Saturday into an area where a downhill specific trail formerly existed. If anyone wants to come along, [bring proper hiking gear]. It’s estimated to be a 5-ish kilometer hike into an area near the old Carmi XC Ski trails; see attached map for overview. We'll drop a car at the bottom, drive up to the top parking area, hike down to the drop-car and shuttle back up to get the top car... the usual routine.
The plan is to hike and GPS a trail called 'No Frothers' which once traversed the area. Its rumored that said trail has fallen into disrepair, and we wish to see just how bad things are, and if its’ worth clearing and repairing. We'll GPS mark any fallen trees and make note of areas that need maintenance in general, including potential for switchbacks etc. This information will help us if we decide to make a return trip (or two), in the spring to clean up and rejuvenate the trail.
The meeting is at Starbucks downtown location at noon-sharp Saturday. Again, if you are thinking of attending, please bring proper hiking attire; otherwise this could be a miserable adventure for you…

PS: The area you see below displays the popular Code4/KnuckleDuster DH runs. The run that we're looking for is... in there somewhere north of KnuckleDuster...

Hey Andrew,
did you find this trail? There are a couple of other trails in that area as well that don't see much traffic. I wonder if you any of those while you were up there? I know that area a little bit if you need someone to show you around. Sundays work the best for me.
Also, I talked to John Borkwood yesterday and he mentioned you were doing some gps work in the High Pony area. If you need any help once again I am free sundays. Mornings are preferrable. Let me know, as I will be going for a ride otherwise. Maybe I'll chance riding High Pony tommorrow if this weather holds up. Could be fun/scary!
See ya,
Karl.

Frothers
Karl,
Didn't hear back from anyone on that offer, that day, so ended up going out to Mt.Keogan and running some tracks there instead. I’ve spoken to Wolfgang, who it appears (?), is responsible for some of the other trails adjacent to Code 4 / Knuckle-Duster. He is, at this point, a little stand-offish about revealing the whereabouts to the trails he has constructed up there… However, he did leave a little light of possibility shine through in regards to showing me a trail or two :-) I realize that he has constructed some stuff where it sounds like he’s put literally months and months of work into them, and they are his private Gems; and a couple of them sound like they’re full-on psycho-structures.. but I’d like it to be him that shows us as a club; the No Frothers and Spewing Forth Redness routes. That way I’ll get the feeling that he’s given us his ‘its all cool’ on publishing at least those ‘generic’ routes. The rest of his stuff; the “right off the deep end / overkill” wooden structure stuff he described to me the other day - I’m comfortable with leaving it off the radar and allowing him to have his private place to groove out…
I'm up for a hike of High Pony tomorrow (Sunday) however. I don't know if there'll be snow up near the Top Crossing - so I think I'll just hoof it instead of riding. John also expressed interest in doing the same. I have a suspicion that the H.P. loop has more trails dropping off it heading west these days, than what is shown on the 'classic' T.B.M map we’ve all seen (https://servimg.com/view/13201782/6)
I have several GPS devices on hand and I'm sure that John has one as well - I could give you a GPS to hold onto in case there are trails branching off south of the Top Crossing. What I suggest is that some members of our group of three could drop off High Pony on unmarked ‘New’ trails heading west as we made our way along it, with one person staying on the main trail to get it’s route down pat on GPS. The other two (or more if folks want to join us), dropping off and meeting up again on FireBreak Rd. or perhaps lower, on Black-Bear. What this would accomplish is that we could get three (or more) trails GPS'd in one shot. The existing stuff on the map (link above) is vaguely accurate, but there are definite inaccuracies and a lot of stuff that simply doesn't appear at all.
John; do you ride bike as well? If you do, we could do this as a ride instead of a hike; it’d be a lot faster!
