Alternative Transportation Scavenger Hunt held by the City of Penticton.
During bike to work week (May 28th to June 1st, 2012 participants will use bikes, skateboards, buses, wheelchairs, walking and other alternative modes of transportation to travel throughout the downtown. Using cellphones, cameras, verbal and written feedback, they will provide feedback on the City's alternative transportation. The Penticton and Area Cycling Association is hosting the 2012 Penticton Bike to Work Week.
Celebration Stations run Monday - Friday, 7am-9am.
Monday: Gyro Park
Tuesday: Corner of Government and Carmi (First Baptist Church)
Wednesday: Perrin's Orthodontics (where KVR crosses Main Street near RCMP station)
Thursday: Just south of Walmart at Oasis United Church
Friday: Nanaimo Square

THURSDAY: Official Public Consultation Launch - Come early and provide input, meet City staff and Andreas Rohl, Copenhagen’s cycling plan expert.
FRIDAY: Alternate Transportation BBQ (burgers) 4:30pm-6pm Gyro Park

Make our Downtown easier to get around. If you walk, use a mobility aid, skateboard, rollerblade, bike or take the bus, you’re invited to participate in the Alternative Transportation Scavenger Hunt on Friday, June 1 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Participants will take part in a fun search, travelling throughout the Downtown and bringing important alternative transportation issues forward to planning staff. Participants will be invited to the Bike to Work Week Celebration BBQ, sponsored by Vibrant Penticton, in addition to receiving swag like bus passes and gift certicates to Downtown businesses.
All ages and abilities are welcome to take part. Space is limited and participants must register in advance by emailing jake.belobaba@penticton.ca or by calling (250) 490-2527. For more information on the Downtown Plan, visit www.penticton.ca/downtown

Proposed Bike Network Plan
The City of Penticton is using Bike to Work Week as the venue to launch consultation on the proposed Penticton Bike Network Plan. The Plan will be unveiled during Bike to Work Week Monday May 28 to Friday June 1, 2012. This will be done at the morning Celebration Stations Mon - Thurs as part of Bike to Work Week, with Thursday May 31, 2012, being the main consultation day.
The Proposed Penticton Bike Network Plan will be presented and Andreas Rohl will make a presentation. Display boards showing the proposed Cycling network will be on hand and City staff will be there to gather comments. The details on this event are:

Presentation by Andreas: 6:00pm
Venue: SOEC (South Okanagan Events Centre)
Following Andreas’s presentation there will be Questions and Answers.
Prior to Andreas’s presentation and after the question and answer period the public will have the opportunity to use sticky notes to place their comments on the Proposed Bike Network Map and to discuss the plan with City staff.

Andreas Rohl is the Bicycle Program Manager for the City of Copenhagen. Andreas’s areas of expertise include cycling strategy, the design of cycling infrastructure and how to integrate cycling in the general urban planning and with other modes of transport. Andreas was instrumental in the creation of the Copenhagen Cycle Plan. Andreas is currently on sabbatical in BC doing work with the City of Vancouver. At the meeting he will share his views and experiences with the creation of a cycle network plan.

Monday Update
Hi all,
Bike to Work Week kicked off today with a breakfast in GyroPark. Over 130 cyclists stopped by! There were breakfast burritos from TheBench, coffee from Cherry Hill, bike tune ups courtesy of Freedom the Bike Shopand The Bike Barn and a chance to win many prizes thanks to our communitysponsors. There are Celebration Stations all week, 7am-9am for cyclistsparticipating in Bike to Work Week.

Wednesday: 1000 Main St near Edmonton Ave
Thursday: 2964 Skaha Lake Rd just south of Walmart
Friday 7am: Nanaimo Square downtown
Friday 4:30pm: Wrap-up bbq in Gyro Park
