Apex to Isintok via the Husky Trail
Brent, Peter Matthews and I hit the ground running this morning, keen to explore Jamie & Diesel's 'Husky Trail' which runs between Apex Resort and Isintok Lake. Louise was kind enough to drop us off at Apex in the am, and we had arranged for Graham to pick us up at Isintok Lake.
What an excellent plan! Now all we need to do was find and ride a trail that none of us had ever seen before... Jamie J. provided a GPS track of the route, so, modern technology in hand, we set out:
Peter, two-trackin' it on the way up
Which soon found us in the midst of these lil' beauties
Iron Man Special; only $400.00 a night - admittedly, a bit of a 'Fix er' upper', but the cheapest accommodations in the area this weekend!
Peter; pondering the necessity of having to use a seat...
After a goodly chunk of old dually, finally - the goal; Sweet Singletrack!
I had warned Brent that "there might be hills" on our 'descent' Here he refines the art of pushing a 40lb bike up a 40 degree slope :-)
...an effort which was soothed by, what else, more flowers! The air was absolutely saturated with their fragrant aroma!
Apparently, olfactory overload hit Brent - or was he merely reaching down to pick flowers? :-)
The trail's namesake; The Husky Trail (log trailside)
Happy Lads at the end of a long ride (30+ km with extra trail sleuthing)
What better way to end the ride than with Water melons?!
...at the lake
Riding in the alpine, far above the valley heat ROCKS! I've also shown the routes to Sheeprock Mt. and Brent Mt. (in light green) to demonstrate other route options in the area.
Me, with a look of astonishment on my face ("Holy Crap, another hill?", I thought this was a descent...) Note the highly refined 'nard-guard/chest protector' duct-taped to the stem :-)

setting records straight ...
The Push:
I'm pretty sure we all pushed up that bugger. I had trouble even making it on foot.
The Flower Tap:
I was actually doing a full speed hand plant over a log and under a half fallen tree. It is too bad it wasn't on video as it was a spectacular event to behold.
